Hey all hope all had a great run this last weekend.
As for me as I said I FINALLY got to run. All was good car was running great (lil sputter on the initial acceleration--but after that better then ever) anyway I run the hot laps (which at my track is like the first race of the night--most dvr's run hard)
I start in 4th and I’m able to pull up to 2nd where I finished. I ran (tires) 205/60-15 on the LF, and 225/60 15 on the rest, during the hot laps I run psi 10lf, 12 lr, 16rr, & 18 rf. anyway during the hot laps (track still wet) I was hitting (in & out) the corners great. So when my heat comes on I add about a lb. or two (psi) all the way around, go out (they start me in last row outside w/ 10 cars running- since this was my first week out) green flag fly’s and first corner I hit in turn 1 I’m all over the place, I’m able to somewhat hang w/ the pack first 5 of 6 laps (even though I looked like someone ice-skating for the first time) on the last lap out of turn 2 I’m all over the place and end up in the infield. Where I hit the infield it was a "BAD SPOT" it was like hitting a curb, which end up pushing my radiator up, electric fan into pulley freezing it and causing a short. I seen smoke coming out and just new I’d lost my new engine,--but when a popped the hood it turns out to be plastic burning causing the smoke (my wires were glowing red grd. & hot wire from fan to were I have them tapped in to hot. so I re-wire under hood "jimmy rig radiator and fan back into position--trying to make it to the b-main. After all that go to try and fire it up- it turns but "NO FIRE", look at the box in the car (where toggle switch is, and the wires are fried together on back of switch.) so on the trailer I went.
Any way sorry about the long essay I just wrote; here are my questions, I ask this stuff about a yr. ago but here it is again, can someone breakdown in layman terms "stagger and spacing" how to use it i.e. spacers or in the rim/tire size? Tubes in tire good our bad, right now I just have one in my r-fnt tire. and good tire psi for different track conditions? Last time someone broke it down for me my head was spinning- please keep it simple for me--thx.
One more thing- I found out we can now run headers w/ muff(before we had to use exhaust manifolds). I just got a new manifold off a ranger, it's in my garage-I was told that was the way to go, should I put it on or get the headers? pro'S-con'S.
thx to all in advance.

remember is you are loose bring the rr tire in under the car. if running that low of pressure on radials run tubes but make sure your wheel will except them. IF you go with a stock header all you are saving is weight. I would go with JD Laramee header it is awsome I got one on my car and oh my gosh but the disadvanage is 250.00 BUt if you do go with a factory header give me a pm and I will tell you some more things. Got to get back to work later BObby

Well I sold my car mini2.3, but i still want to be active in the forum, since I got a long term contract (handshake) to drive a different mini that is owned by a friend of mine. I am running and a super tacky 1/2 mile track, I dont have tubes or super special tires, actually they are used tires given to me by a local tire shop. I ran tubes when i first had the car, it wasnt good, cuz the tubes would slip in the tires and cut off the valve. That pressure you ran was way too high from my experince, someone told me once that tire pressure was a way to get more speed when you lacked power, so i upped my pressure, same as you all over the track, so bad it took me three yellow laps to get back into position after a car knocked me off the track. This year I started running 10 - 14 lbs all the way around 10 RR - 11 LR - 13 in the fronts, if the track is dry but not too dry, usually in the trophy, I up it one pound accordingly. The you want a really deep dished wheel (biggest offset) on the LF wheel, keep that suspension as soft as you can get it. I had a 1" stagger in the rear and my car was really loose, I lost the stagger and did a lot better. But you gotta set up your car to YOUR driving style, so get some seat time and make minor adjustments, not between races since the track changes from race to race. Make the adjustments between race nights, where you can see how the car acts differently. Keep track of your adjustments and do them ONE AT A TIME.

im gonna be in front someday

Thx a lot guy’s- that’s gives me a starting point. (shadoza glad to here you’ll still be racing). Let me just ask you and bobby (or anyone w/ advice) a couple follow up questions- I’ll try to keep it sort. “bullet questions we call them in the army”;
 “loose bring rr under car” do you mean to use spacer and pull it off that wheel to pull it in when track is loose(dry slick)?
 “ensure wheel will take tub” & “ tube slipping and cutting off steam”; which type wheel are we talking about? Do I need a wider wheel? The stock rims a use now are about 5-6” wide, except the one custom (homemade) one on my RR which is 8” wide?
 “deep dish wheel(biggest offset) on the lf” can I use a 1” spacer on that lf wheel for the same effect? If not how wide of a wheel?
 I have a couple 13” wheels lying around, would it be good idea to use one (I’ve seen car’S using 1--13” rim)? And where should I use it (if I do) LF or LR?
 One more quick question, radiator, mine is a very wide ,long and about 1” thin (came with car—don’t know what it out of) it sits in my car at 45 DEG. Angle w/ top pointing out and bottom in toward engine (lil more in toward engine after I hit that infield sat.) anyway I want to change it so it’S straight up and down, what’s a good one to use? I’ve heard one from a jeep??

Thx again—you guy’S are great help.

you can do it that way or just use a different offset wheel

what I was talking about is valve stem location. if it is a stock wheel and stock place do not worry about it but if it is closer to the center of the wheel you will rip the valvestem out of it every time

On the wheels the 13" are usually lighter than 15" wheels and that is the advantage As for using a 13" wheel with 15 I would say measure all your roll outs with a tape measure and record even with the 13" you never know there might be some weird circumstance and you have to use them. Keep this in a racing note book with you for quick referance. If you have a handling problem we can help a lot more precise. even if you have a 225/60 all the way around the car they will 99% of the time have a different rollout

Radiator. IF you can modify it use an alum. one from a taurus the neck is a little tall but you can figure away around that. Or the mercury couger or thunderbird are good ones I think not for sure but all of them will be a two core radiator and will cool a ton better than what you have. Hope this helps BObby

THX MUCH BOBBY, THAT SHOULD GIVE ME A GOOD JUMP oR START POINT FOR NOW. I STILL NEED TO RE-WIRE MY CAR FROM THAT TOGGLE SWITCH OUT, I HOPE THAT IS THE CAUSE FOR ME NOT GETTING ANY SPARK?? MY LUCK -I'LL GET IT RE-WIRED AND STILL NOT HAVE ANY SPARK, LET's HOPE NOT.
TAKE CARE I'LL LET YOU KNOW HOW IT COMES OUT.

I started off last season with and aluminum racing radiator from AFCO, I broke it before I ever got to race the car, HA. When the guy you buy a car from says to tighten everything down before you drive it, LISTEN. I replaced it with the same radiator from AFCO 200 bucks. I broke it in my back yard when one of my kids put a concrete block in front of my car and I ran it over. My fault, I should have checked. So at the start of this year I went to a junkyard and looked at what they had, My AFCO radiator was 22 x 29 I think, not sure, but it was the smaller one anyways, I got a radiator from an 81 monte carlo 6cyl for 20 bucks, same size and hose locations. I had to get a few different hoses from autozone and fabricate them together to make them fit. But my car ran cooler than with the AFCO believe it or not. Are all of your wheels the same? I have 8 wheels, 4 are the same, 2 are a little deeper than the 4, and 2 are deeper than the rest. You probably want the deepest wheel on the right front, but you may want to get a second opinion on that. Thats just what I was told, and I handled a little better like that. What it does is make the right front suspension softer than the rest and honestly I dont know why but 95% of what I heard was you want your right front really soft. MINI2.3 you are in the Army? HOOAH, where are you at and whats yer MOS? I spent 8 years as a 63S. Good luck to you. And when you get out, use that GI Bill, its great.

THX AGAIN GREAT TIPS. YES I'M STILL IN THE ARMY, 16YR'S NOW, I'M A 13Z, MLRS (ARTILLERY) BATTERY 1SG, SO YOU WERE A HEAVY WHEEL MECHANIC, THAT'S GREAT- I HAVE SOME GOOD ONES IN MY UNIT THAT KEEP MY HEMTT FLEET A ROLLING.
ANYWAY I HAVE ABOUT 7 WHEELS, MOST (4) ARE YOUR STOCK TYPE RIM (ABOUT 5-6 INCH WIDE) 1 IS A CUSTOM MADE JOB (CAME W/ THE CAR) IT ABOUT 8" WIDE AND I'VE BEEN KEEP IT ON MY R.R.? I ALSO HAVE A COUPE 13' RIMS (ABOUT 4-5" WIDE). I'M GOING TO GIVE THAT WIDE 8" WHEEL A TRY ON THE FNT RIGHT THIS WEEK, I'LL TELL YOU-I CAN'T GET A WORSE SET UP THEN I RAN LAST WEEK THAT’S FOR SURE. I'M GOING TO START A BOOK THIS WEEK TOO, I'VE MADE SO MANY CHANGES OVER THE LAST YEAR MY HEAD IS SPINNING ,I CAN'T REMEMBER ALL THE DIFFERENT SET UP'S AND WHAT WORKS AND DON'T--IT'S LIKE I'M STARTING AT GROUND ZERO AGAIN. AS FOR THAT RADIATOR, BETWEEN YOU AND BOBBY I HAVE A GOOD IDEA OF WHAT CARS TO LOOK AT WHEN I HIT THE SALVAGE YARDS TODAY. I HOPE I CAN FIND SOME MORE WHEELS TOO, I'D LIKE TO TRY A COUPLE MAG'S LIKE I HAVE ON MY 93 MUSTANG (POV) I'VE SEEN A COUPLE CARS OUT AT MY TRACK USING THEM.
ANYWAY I GOT TO GET DOWN TO THE MOTORPOOL AND CHECK TNG, OH ONE MORE THING I DID MY RE-WIRING LAST NIGHT-AND IT FIRED RIGHT UP AND SOUND GOOD--READY TO GIVE I **** SAT NIGHT--I HOPE.
THX AGAIN
