Hey all. First off I would like to say thanks to everyone for your participation in this forum. You are ALL awesome!!!

Now for my problem. I raced my car first night of the year (two weeks ago), and it did very well. Except for in the Main Event when my starter fell off, but that is a small problem. I didn't get a chance to race it this weekend for certain reasons, but that isnt important. I had an offer from someone that wanted to buy my car yesterday, so I went and got some new starter bolts, and LOC-TITE, ha, slapped my starter on, went to fire it up and UH OH... it ran like poo-poo. I have to keep it almost floored for it to idle. Nothing has been done to it since the last time I raced it, when it was fine. Anyone have any ideas? I dont run MSD or any other fancy stuff, just a straight coil. I checked my distributor timing and when I took it from where I had it it ran even worse, so my distributor timing was fine.

I had the very thing happen to me this week end Make sure to check the starter wire where it goes through the firewall. Mine got hot and melted to the fire wall. Needless to say I went from front to back in a hurry. Hope this helps BObby

Your starter fell off too? What I did to fix it was loc-tite and I got some 10mm x 1.50 studs from autozone, put a nut and lock washer behind the bellhousing and on the starter side both. I dont see anyway this is gonna fall off now. But I don't see any bare wire showing in the firewall area, any other ideas?

Make sure your flywheel is still intact that was the problem of the year for me last year it was barely holding on and it didnt run for crap.

after your starter fell off did your engine do anything out of the ordinary like back fire or idle rough. You might make sure your belt did not slip a notch. And where do you have it timed at. BObby

Well, I reset my belt. Still runs the same. As far as timing? you mean ignition timing right? I really dont know, I have it set where it runs the best, HA, I know I sound like a Jerry Rigger, but my machinist buddy set it once for me and said to set it where it runs like that if I ever mess with it. I seen in a reply to hopalong (i think) where you guys set it at, but I dont have a degree thing on my pulley??? It sounds like it is running off of three cylinders so maybe I have something wrong in my rotor cap. ALSO, I forgot about this SMALL detail. During my trophy dash, I noticed my oil pressure was lower than usual. So before the main, I checked my oil. It was night time, and just changed my oil before the races started, the oil was clean, I couldnt make up my mind if I had low oil, or not, so I added some oil. Turns out I was about two qts of oil over where I should have been. Could that have done something? I know I had oil all over my engine compartment from the blowby tube thingy (i am not for sure what its proper name is). But it is right under the intake manifold and runs between my distibutor and my block, with a big sponge thing on the end of the tube. That thing is covered with oil. I am gonna wait until tomorrow and see if anyone can point me in the right direction and if not bu a new cap and rotor, maybe some oil got in there.

Do you notice any smoke? does it act like its flooding...also how much oil did you put in it in the pits ?if its flooding to bad it will build up fuel in the oil...just trying to help...towman

That blow by deal is just a crank case vent. it is normal for them to blow a little pull a plug and check to make sure you did not foul them out. I was talking about ign. timing. But did you check to make sure your belt did not slip take it off after you check plugs Find tdc and use the e bar method to set your cam right and put it back on. I hope you get it figured out. Well, my rotor and cap are fine. I already pulled my timing belt and reset it but what is the e-bar method? Also yeah I pulled my plugs, before this race they were brand new after one night they were really black and sooty. After everything I have done nothing has changed, it still runs the same, either bad or not at all. I dont get it, the last night it ran it won a race, week later, it wont run. I skipped a race, my buddy says the car is mad cuz she didnt get to race and I have her up for sale, ever heard of possessed cars? CHRISTINE, uh oh.

I am refering to make your front two lobes of your cam level while the 1 piston is at tdc. Just get your lobes on the 1 to be pointing outward and lay a level across the diagnal. when you get them level slap the belt on. This only works if the duration and lift is the same on each intake and exhaust side. BObby

Try checking the tooth on the inside of the rotor, they spin sometimes so make sure it is a snug fit .
Might be something simple that is caused by gremlins.

HEY HEY HEY!!! We figured it out!!! After 3 guys and 5 hours of taking it apart, putting it together, taking it apart, putting it together, over and over and over with no luck, one of us decided to mess with the carburetor, my needle decided to back out a little and that was the WHOLE problem. Thanks everyone for your input, I learned a lot from this frustrating experience.
