hey this is only my second year of racin too. what size rearend do you have? mine is 7.5 and i believe the next gear down is a 2.73. I have a list of the diffrent size rearends and the gears that you can get for them.

well seems alot of questions on this one but no answers yet so will ask same kind of thing only mine is a stock 83 with 4 sp. was thinking of checking to see if the auto version had a lower rearend gear.
We use 2nd gear and is just a touch to high for the length of the straight. Third is too high. so will be watching this thread close. who ever had the list of avail gears would sure be appreciated if you could send or post the info.
thanks 110 days to green flag

if your trans is got a cast housing and is fine spline than it's a 2.14, if it has an aluminum housing and is corse spline it's 2.21. that is the ratio in second gear i'am pretty sure.what size track are you running? do you know what size rear gear your runin if you do multiply trans ratio by rear and that gives you your total. the rerend may have a tag if it doesn't you can take the cover off and on the ring gear there will be some #'s like 41 10 and so on you divide these #'s to get what gear you have in rear. if you tell us the track size we can tell you what combination you need.

if it is a course spline could it be a 2.57 or if it is a fine it could be a 1.97 both second gear it is hard to say. The best way to do it is to put it in the desired gear and turn it and divide. Input divided by output.

A 7.5 IN A MUSTANG WILL BE A REAR LODING DANA STYLE AND WILL HAVE A SMALL ALMOST SQUAR BACK PLATE AND THE 8.8 WILL HAVE LARGER MORE ROUND BACK PLATE, AND THE 8.0 IS A SMALLER VERSHION OF THE 9" AND IS A FRONT LODER PUMPKIN STYLE

the gears i took out measure 8 inches on the outside of the ring gear. it is a rear loaded housing. i believe they are and 8.8 but only measure 8 inch.
