I'M RE BUILDING MY ENGINE FOR MY 2ND SEASON, HERE'S WHAT I'M LOOKING AT GOING WITH. ANY PRO'S OR CONS TO THIS SET UP WOULD HELP.THX

BOOTOM
2300 crankshaft cut for chevy 250 6 cylinder rods // KB 5.7" .927" PISTONS// stock Chevy 5.7" .927" Chevy 6(2.0") RODS // W/ ALL NEW BEARINGS, MY LOCAL MACHINE SHOP IS GOING TO PROVIDE A BLOCK AND DO THE ASSEMBLY & MACHNE WORK

TOP
ALREADY HAD THE HEAD MILLED .150 WILL ADD:
HOLLEY 500 CFM 2 bbl CARB (HAD AN OLDER 355) //2.3 multi index--cam timing sprocket //CAM 274 .535(duration @.050" & valve lifT) //CHEATER VALVES (1.89" intake, 1.59" exhaust)
PLUS:
4 CYLINDER CLUTCH KIT (WOULD LIKE- ultralite clutch assembly 2.3- BUT IT COST WAY TOO MUCH) HOW ABOUT SHAVING WEIGHT OFF THE STOCK FLY WHEEL??

WELL THIS IS THE MEAT OF WHAT I PLAN ON DOING. ALSO PLAN ON GETTING NEW WHEELS, LAST YEAR I USED THE $5 RIMS FOR THE LOCAL SALVAGE YARD ALL 15's W/ 13 ON FNT LEFT. I WANT TO GO W/ A 8" WIDE WHEEL BUT DON'T KNOW IT I SHOULD GO W/ ALL 15's OR ALL 13's. ALSO NOT SURE WHAT IF ANYTHING TO DO / MY STOCK TRANNY. ALL INPUT WILL HELP.

from what I have talked to the pro's do not run keith blacks I know people have good luck with them but when they go they take the whole block and everything with it. They just shatter. the stock rods are good if you do not turn them to much. well I hope this helps And it is just what I have been told By JD Laramee. Good luck Bobby

we have all heard the same thing about the keith black pistons to.I would run the JE pistons we have all good luck with them.then with your flywheel speedway has a decent price on the light weight one probably the cheapest you will find.i run a german 4 speed and nothing has been done to it the one i run the most has second and third gears removed for weight reasons but i run in second gear all the time anyway so it dont matter.well ihope i helped a little good luck

If you use the KB pistons make sure and use the ring gap they say it is more than normal but KB pistons must have the extra ring gap. Use the 13" tires you will save alot of rotating and unsprung weight. get you a fly wheel off of a 1.9 escort they start out at 17lbs and will bolt right on. Stock is about 22lbs.

do you have a mustang or pinto?

If you are interested I have a fresh small jurnal 2.3 crank that is turned to 2.0" rods and lightened 5lbs and ballanced work was doen by Johnson Machine. I have about $300.00 investid will take much less.

THX MUCH TO ALL, KEEP IT COMING--IT'S A GREAT HELP.-JUST FEW MORE QUESTIONS?
JE pistons?? WHERE DO YOU GET THEM, RACER WALSH HAS KB & WIESCO- I'VE HEARD ALOT OF BAD ON THE KB PISTIONS TOO-- BUT THEY ARE ALMOST HALF THE COST...
german 4 speed.. WHERE DO YOU PICK THESE UP AT??
AND OKIE PRO I have a mustang, WILL THE FLY WHEEL FROM THE 1.9 ESCORT DROP RIGHT IN?? AS FOR THAT CRANK I MAY BE INTERESTED- THE ONE I'M GETING FROM RACER WALSH IS ALSO CUT 2.0 FOR THE LONG RODS BUT THERE ONLY ASKING ABOUT $200-- WHERE'S THE DIFFERENCE AT?? DON'T FORGET I'M STILL NEW AT ALL THIS SO DON'T THINK I'M BEING A SMART AS_ I'M JUST TRYING TO GET SOME KNOWLEDGE (THANKS). ONE MORE THING WHERE'S A GOOD SPOT TO P/UP THOSE 13 X 8 WHEELS FOR A GOOD PRICE??

ALSO OKIE PRO- WHERE DO YOU RUN AT- I'M DOWN HERE AT THE LAWTON, OK SPEEDWAY-- WELL THX AGAI

Yes the fly will fit you will have to get a longer throwout bearing from an old 6cyl chevy I don't know the part # but I bet some one on here does.
I use M.R.T. wheels 800-643-3625
I don't know what the crank you are looking at from racer walsh is but this is for the small jurnal block and I would take 225.00 plus shipping
The Wiesco, J&E, Ross, all make a very good 2.3 piston for about $300.00
We raced the Pro4 at Ada, Tulsa, and Boyd TX. This year we are moving up to a Modified and will run at Ada, Outlaw speedway, and Meeker.

I believe the late 60's is the one you need.

you will find the JE pistons in esslinger they might be a little high but they are worth it in the long run,as for the 4 speed german tranny ask you salvage yards and trans shops

OKIE PRO4, THX AGAIN-- BELOW IS THE AD CUT FROM THE RACER WALSH SITE, I WAS THINKING THE CRANK WAS ALREADY CUT TO 2.0 BUT AFTER READING I SEEN THE MACHINE WORK WAS STILL REQUIRED,SO $225 ON YOURS SOUNDS PRETTY FARE, I'M NOT ORDERING ALL THESE PARTS UNTEL AFTER THE 1ST. I'LL STAY IN TOUCH AND IF YOU STILL HAVE IT THEN WE'LL DO THE DEAL.

I have used KB pistons for the last two seasons with no problems. We just pulled the head for some work and the pistons look very well. My mechanic says we should be able to get another season or two out of them.

For the extra $130.00 I would use the wiseco's they are a very good piston and about $40.00 cheeper thin the J&E and Ross. Midwest motorsports has the J&E,
Race Engineering sales J&E and Wiseco, I am not shure who sells Ross any more.

gl 1SG and if you get bored the black scorpions are fun with an artillary crate and 4 inches of dirt... we put a plexiglass lid on it, it was like an ant farm... be careful of the white ones though... those ones can hurt you, well both of them can, but the white ones are worse than the black ones... anyways... im just rememencing or however you spell it.
