I am having my head milled in the near future for next season. I see a bunch of pretty fancy stuff for these engines, but how much does all of that really help? Like how much does an 800 dollar racing clutch assebly really help? Or is an extra 500 or so bucks it takes to put in a roller valve train really worth the 500 or so bucks? From what I read in here, nobody really talks about getting the expensive stuff a lot, mainly just stuff that is simple and inexpensive, does that simple and inexpensive stuff help more than the big money add ons. Like it probably costs under 100 bucks to have the head milled most anywhere in the United States. Would milling the head a whole bunch help out more than that 800 dollar racing clutch?

Goog question Shadoza, we are in the process of rebuilding our 2.3 and have a lot of the same concerns. We cannot use racing clutchs so for us its not an issue. Would like to know if aftermarket cams are beneficial with a non ported closed chamber d- port? does it make sense to try and use a high lift long uration cam with a stock head?

Shadoza, do you have a stock roller cam? If not a lot of the Turbo 2.3 guys are going with the 95-2000 2.3/2.5 roller out of the rangers. The 2.5 has a different roller follower ratio also.

No I am running a hydraulic cam. I am not sure what the duration and stuff is, it came with the car, but I know it is aftermarket.

All I know is I am racing against guys that run engines that cost thousands. I aint got thousands to spare on (as my wife puts it) "a hobby".

From what I know my car has a holly 500, a cam, headers, and its bored over a bit. I need more, but I would rather not spend thousands of dollars to win, or wait for the leaders to mess up so I might win.

But my plan for the offseason is a new set of headers, mill the head, and an adjustable cam gear. I see all these other fancy items, but how much would they help?

IT ALL HELPS A LITTLE BUT STOCK WITH HIGH COMPRESSION , CARB AND A 450 LIFT CAM IS GOOD CHEEP H.P. REMBER IF POWER IS NOT GETTING TO THE GROUND IT WONT HELP, GET SETUP RIGHT AND ALL CARS CAN BE FAST , MY BRO IN LAW RAN BONE STOCK 2300 AND RAN WITH THE POMPED UP 2300 AND FINISHED 4 TH IN POINTS, ONLY 60 BEHIND THE LEADER, SO H.P. IS JUST FOR THOSE PEOPLE THAT CAN'T DRIVE OR DONT HAVE A SET UP.
