Is the 2.3 liter motor in a mustang 82 model the same as a ranger from the early 80s I read in a manual the lift for intake was .400 lift.??? Is the camshaft journal the same???

I tested the lift on the camshaft of my mustang and found that it had a .268 lift and the whole time I thought it had a .400 lift but obviously I was wrong. The class im racing in can have a max .450 lift cam and want to try to get more competitive with the field. best finish so far is 4th and I feel like the .450 lift cam would make the difference.

To go to the .450 lift cam do I need new lifters, rockers and springs also besides what comes in the stock motor. Also how much should I mill conservatively from the head. I know this is a lot of questions but Im apparently lost.

the ranger cam is the .400 lift. that would be your best bet. just use the same lifters and springs and rockers that was in the ranger motor with the .400 lift cam. all ranger motors make more power than the cars because they are heavier and are made to haul more

I found an error in what I was saying. The cam had a .268 lift and found that I have a 1.5 rocker arm ratio and it is in fact a .400 lift overhead cam threw me a curve.

Could I achieve a .450 lift simply by changing rocker arms?? And if so is there any other considerations. Valve springs?/ Lifters? If the math I was shown is correct a 1.7 rocker ratio would do it .456 lift. Is it possible to modify it this simply.

Cut .150 off your head,over size stock length valves,look for a fuel injection intake,get the carb adapter,and you should do real a stock 4 class.

If you can find a D port 2.3 head I would use it also because they flow so much better!
