My local track has a four cylinder class called "hornets". They are becoming quite popular here in central IL. The rules say any completely stock 4cyl car. No turbos, front or rear wheel drive. What in your opinion is the best car. The Grand Am quad 4's seem to clean up the place. Seem's like the just pull away in the straights and noone can catch up. Any other thoughts...

I would prefer a ford pinto or mustang people gripe that the back of a pinto isnt strong enough but just weld the back spring shackles to 1 bar and run it from side to side.they also say that the pinto isn't heavy enough in the back for weight percentages just use heavier tubing like inch and three quarter at a thicker guage

For this type of classes more traditional racers have to look outside the box a little. Most aren't used to DOHC and fuel injection being allowed. If you can find one cheap I'd try to get an Escort ZX2. The suspension is pretty cool, and there is a lot of information on how to work with the zetec engine. A probe might be something else to take a look at. I know there a lot of rice burners that would do good in this type of class too, but I, personally, like to stay American. Oh, and if the rules don't specifically say no 4wd or all wheel drive, that may be a direction to look in. I hope I helped.

Any stock 4 cyl. car, fwd or rwd is a pretty broad statement. I don't think the stock pinto will compete with the likes of some of the twin cam 4 valve cars. Our new fwd class says no quad 4's for obvious reasons. Look at what is winning!!
