The best are Horstman. They need alot of attention. On a begginer I would go with a Ratech(noram)GE series with purple srings and light shoes. They are hard to "smoke".hope this helps.

Thanks a million....I am trying to find something durable to get started with so he can run with pretty low maintenance for a while.

I would start with the horstman, it's a good clutch, even with the maintenance you have to perform it will work for years for you. Horstman will give you very good reliable starts also, whereas, in my experience, the noram won't start anywhere as good as the horstman.

If you want a good pretty much maint. free clutch that is inexpensive by a stinger. They are only around $130.

I've personally had very good luck with the "BULLY" clutch by BULLER BUILT in Henderson, NE. These clutches have a special friction material that wear very little and seem to last a very long time. My friends and I all use this brand with great success.

Definately get a Horstman or a Vortec clutch those Raytech's are the best paper weight I own that's about all they're worth Thet cost more but definately worth it in performance and durability also you can set them up to engage at a higher rpm and they will be almost impossible to smoke.

I love my Noram In the last five years I have replaced drums twice and shoes once. But I am going to try the stinger this next season if it does not work for me I will go back to the noram. DOOKIE send me all your paper weights I always like extra stuff in case of a failure.

I have run both in competion. The horstman has its ups.But I believe on and off the throttle as kids do will kill one.Plus there is a lot of matinence to one.I will go with a ratech(noram)for a beginner.
