has anybody ever tried running billet main straps on the front 4 main caps of a 400sbc. would this be a good step up from just stock main caps without breaking the bank and buying all new caps? how well did it hold up if you've tried it?

thanks for the input

Well i've heard of machining down the main caps to install those but really didn't see any point good main studs would be better,400's have really big mains anyway billet splayed mains are about as good as it gets.

IMHO, if you are at the point where you NEED to beef up that area, then buck up for the good stuff. You won't regret it.

I'm not much on 400 blocks but I've always heard that the webbing was the problem and not the caps as a ruleIMO
