What are the criteria for switching from a stock SBC fuel pump to one of the mech. high volume aftermarkets. I'm changing tracks and engines and don't really know if I need the high volume pump. I'm running a 406 on racing gas, max rpm ~~ 6400, 1/2 mile dirt. A search on the subject, showed several threads with people having trouble with fuel pump leaks. What are the usual guidelines and pitfalls of the different types. Thanks for the feedback.

The carter pump with 3/8 outlet/inlet should be fine for that,it's really a good pump. The leaks you're referring to are oil i beleive and the edelbrock and others will really blow oil if the seal inside goes.
