i have a holley carb on a truck i bought. it is an 84016-3. holley's website says 650 cfm. it also says spread bore. i assume this means that the holes are spaced wider? will this fit on a stock, sbc, q-jet cast iron intake manifold? i know i'll probably have to use an adapter plate, but is it worth the trouble and will the "spread bore" give me any trouble?

The "spread bore" description means it will bolt directly to a quadrajet manifold. That was one of Holley's quadrajet replacement application carbs.

Hope that helps,
