just took apart my 383 and the main bearings are worn and the outer edges of the bearing mushroomed out between the main cap and the rod throw. crank got blue and ruined the main caps also. what could cause this? i have an oil pump break but i shut it down right away. this motor only has 2 nights on it.

ps: the crank is an eagle cast crank...could it be a defective crank?

This is quite simply oil starvation , from your description of the blue crank . Any number of thing's could cause this , from wrong bearing clearance to your broken oil pump . I would take this engine to an engine builder that you trust , and have it inspected . This way you will know for sure what the cause was .

Yes , you could have a bad crank resulting in the wrong bearing clearance . But your engine builder should have checked this . It's not uncommon to see Eagle crank's on the high side of the tolerance , or even out of round when you take them out of the box . I'd use an American made crank in your next combo , such as the Callies Dragon Slayer .
