I need to have my 355 freshend up before the season. I was built about 4 years ago, ran about 20 nights and set for 2 years. The guy that built it isn't building engines any more. (Don't know why, this is a good piece) Anyway, I'd like to have it cracked open and inspected and have the rings, bearings and valve springs replaced. What would be a good/average price for an engine builder to do that? I certainly understand it will go up if he finds problems, but I'm just looking for a baseline cost if nothing is wrong. Thanks.

It will depend if you supply the parts. I just had my 400 with 8 nights freshened up and the builder charged me $1000...OUCH...and I supplied the parts, said he normally gets $1400. An engine builder I used to use 6-7 years ago would charge $500 for a freshening. I would say you will be looking at $500 to $1000.
