If all else remains constant what gains are aquired by going to a 1.6 rocker vs 1.5. I know the lift increases, but does it have any other advantages?

It's not so much the fact that a 1.6 rocker will reach a greater maximum valve lift as it is the fact that the valve will reach a certain lift FASTER than it will with the 1.5 rockers.
For example, a valve will get to the .050", .100", .150", .200" etc lift points faster and with less amount of travel up the ramp of the lobe than with a 1.5 rocker.
This is what makes better power. Particulary interesting, is the fact that 2bbl motors tend to make better power with a 1.6 on the intake and a 1.5 on the exhaust (and not the other way around) for the typical solid cam grind that is commonly used.
Many higher dollar LM, Mod, SAS, etc motors (as well as the SB2.2 stuff) will tend to even go more radical on the rocker ratios. For them, it's not uncommon to see 1.8 or so rocker ratios.

Hope that helps,

The higher the ratio the more stress you put on your valvetrain also. Is that correct? Any disadvantages to running them? I wouldn't mind trying them out for kicks and grins. Thanks KP

I ran 1.6 rockers on a midwest number 1 cam last year and was very happy with it. I went with 7/16 studs though so reliability wasnt a problem.

Thanks guys. I have decided to go with the same setup as a guy I race with that has been in the top two the past few years. We get along well and he pointed me in the right direction. I will be running the 1.5 but with a different cam that should be a quality piece. Might look into 1.6 later on. Nick do you got your new car done yet. I plan on keeping up with you guys a little better this year. Brian W. has helped out a lot. Maybe my new number next year will make me faster.lol (#3)

Other than that its just down to tin work. Back dash, trunk floor, visor that kind of stuff. still need to get it scaled and painted plus some other minor stuff.

Doesn't larry hockemier carry a bunch of gears you might want to try him. I have to put my motor together, paint + letter it, and set ride heights and scale it. Car is looking good. If my street vehicle wouldn't be giving me fits lately I would be further ahead. Plus my dad just got hurt a month ago and he's a one hand wonder.
