What can you do to a Toyota MR2 to get more horsepower with out spending to much money? It is a 4-cylinder racecar and I would like to get more out of it. Would an MSD ignition box be the way to go, or is that too much RPM's for a stock engine. I can't bore it out, change the headers, can't have rocker-rollers or change the cam. There is not much you can really do that I can think of, do you have any ideas. It would be great if you do.

I have been told by a very successful toyota racer that a 20r motor can be spiced up by finding a head off a 1972-73-74 corola, corella, or corona. He advised it is a 1.6 liter motor the head comes off of but the valve size is huge in comparison to the 20r head and will bolt right on. I have seen him hit recall on his tach and have seen 8400 rpms myself on it.

He appears to have a good combo, but be forewarned, these heads are becoming rare and hard to find.

Hope this helps
