what is better a 5.7 or 6" rod. Heard 5.7 gives better torque,6" requires more engine work ? Anyone have suggestions. Running 1/4 dirt with a heavy car, 2800 to 6000 RPM.

Heavier car, short track......5.7 for sure
Yea I know Smokey said fit the longest rod possible into every motor.....Ive tried both, I'll stick with the 5.7

i've mentioned this before.....david vizard conducted a rod length comparison dyno test that was in speedway illustrated a few months ago. there is NO benefit to the shorter rod. the 6" rod outperformed the 5.7" rod at every rpm, including low rpms. you can't physically fit a long enough rod in a small block chevrolet to get to the ideal rod/stroke ratio, but the longer, the better.

let me re-phrase that.....a 283 or a 302 chevy and you can get mighty close to ideal.

Provided the cam heads etc are well matched I would prefer the 6 inch rod. It flattens out the torque and hp curve. Like i said before that is provided the gears and the rest of the motor are working togather.
