We run mostly Total Seal gapless or Speed Pro conventionals. Don't know how they compare price wise to the JE's but we have had good luck with them.

What kind of motor are you building? compression? hp? etc?

JE'S ring set's are mostly made up from Speed Pro ring's , with the exception of the occasional Hastings oil ring . Personally , if we do not use a JE ring set , we will use Speed Pro set's .

I've used JE, Speed Pro and Total Seal, and had good results with all. As for a cheaper way to go, I can't help, cause rings are one area where I will absolutely not cut corners. In the recent past, I heard or read that a good rule of thumb was to spend about a third of the cost of your pistons on the rings, and as I looked back, that was about what I had been doing. So of course, I immediately accepted it as a Law Of The Universe!

Anyone try those new total seal gapless top rings yet? Spendy but supposed to be worth extra HP.
