what block #s are the good ones witch blocks to stay away from, i have been running 400s all my life and decided to build a 355/358 and need to know what block to use ,i got 8 or9 lying around all different #S thanks bob

if u have a good 400 block i would be interested if not i maybe interested in a 350 block if saleing any the my numbers read on the blocks i would say 14011064 block is a high nickel block and the 3956618,3932386, im pretty sure those are correct u may find diffrent opinions hope this helps. and thats my 2 cents

014 and 010 blocks are good.

thanks guys, all i got to do is go check some #'s sorry ray 400's are getting hard to find that are in good shape and plus i'm pack rat on motor parts once i got them i try to hold on to them. thanks again bob

look in the timing chain area on the block and you will see no numbers or 010 or 020 or both 010 and 020,the blocks marked with a 010 and 020 together are the best blocks,because they have a higher nickel content for durability and more tin for a better pour during the casting prosess.hope that might help you out.

Question for you engine builders. I gotta block with the numbers facing the wrong way(3970010). Gotta clue?
