What is the best things to do to an engine when you put it away for the winter? Do you drain oil and put new oil in? Put some lub in the cylinders? I have the engine pulled out. I just got it redone about 6 races before the end of my season. I don't want to get it redone yet. Others years it was simple cuz it was just rebuilt before season began. Thanks

i think all you need to do is

back off all the valves and tape up all holes etc intake, exhaust, leave plugs in, oil doesnt matter change it before you start it though..

if your somewhere it could freeze pull the side plugs on the block and drain all water..

drain the carb completely!!!!

some people spray stuff in cylinders, they sell stuff specifically for this even but they are talking about years of storage not 6 months

Best way I've found is to smog the engine first. Meaning start the engine and pour Marvel Mystery oil in to carb when running. TMake sure you do it in a well ventelated area! You don't need much abount a pint when starts to smoke heavy shut motor down. Now all internal parts are coated will not rust. Back off all valves and drain any fuel.

I had mine rebuilt 4 races before the end of season....I tore it down to put new head, intake, oil pan, valve cover gaskets on it. I have it in my shop where it stays about 50 degrees covered in a Mark Martin blanket. Every night before I leave I ever so gently massage the engine as I sing songs off of Days of Thunder, and Six Pack. If you take care of your engine, it will take care of you!!!!
