I know people have asked about 305 heads on a 350 before, I understand the 305 have more compression but less flow... I am curious if the reduced flow will matter on a bomber, we have a .444 max lift cam rule with stock manifolds...

i have an old circle track article on a 305 head 355 and they really didn't get a lot of power out of em even with porting.

I'm running a 355 with 305 heads. The heads are unported but have 194 valves. I run and IMCA STYLE mod. Seems to work pretty well for me and a lot easier to find then camel humps.

do u have a compersion rule? and does the rule say max cam lift or max valve lift?

The lift rule is at the valve, and 72cc is the min. except for 305 heads....

i have ran 305 heads on several different 350
engines. they are a "cheap" way to higher
compression. the last set i used had about
57cc chambers( redneck method) and i used
steel shim head gaskets, flat tops, and a zero decked
block . not sure on the compression ratio, but it felt good off the corner.
(casting # -----601 are good ones to use)

so there is no compersion rule, well then i would run the most u can like 11 or 12 to 1 do u have a carb rule? One thing i would sugest since you have a low lift cam is to use a 5 or even 7 angle valve job it improves flow alot when using a cam under 500 lift, hope this helps

You can only flat mill the heads, so with 350 heads only open chamber heads are allowed. We can run a 4412 or quadrajet, I plan on running the 4412... thanks for the help...

Oh yea, we are allowed to put 1.94/1.6 valves in the 305 heads...

Unless you're running an extremely short track, you'll probably get better performance out of the Q-jet.

I read an article that said 80% of motors have to big a carburator and would perform better with a smaller one, do you really think a bomber motor with stock manifolds needs an 800 cfm carb? I have tried both, a quadrajet from the carburator shop and a 4412 from barry grant. I have taken the 4412 well over 7500 rpm and have never felt it lay down, granted it was on a Super stock motor, but I think it will work great on a bomber motor... I could be wrong, I guess I will have to wait for next year to find out...

probably the worst thing about a quadrajet(besides the accelerator pump)is trying to smooth the thing out to get it off the corner they are made to get good fuel mileage with the spread bore's but the trick is in adjusting the sec air valve,i finally gave up.

There's about a dozen other things, too, that help the quads become "crisp" for racing purposes.
Secondary air flap is definitely right up there, tho, as the above post states.

Setting up the circuits so that fuel flows right from "initial tip-in" of the secondaries is key to getting rid of any bog.
And enlarged pump wells using the 2G sized pump diaphram helps, too.

434 are another set of "hipo" 305 heads w/ small chambers. They have the extra bolt hole in the exhuast side.
