Is it a good idea to do away with the stock sbc oil filter adaptor, so all the oil runs through the filter, or is there a disadvantage that way also?

i don't get rid of them. i block off the bypass so all the oil goes through the filter

I don't block the by-pass ,Motor builder did not like that idea at all ,He said it could be way too much pressure for the filters and they could fail. I don't know for sure if that was the case but I didn't want to be the one to find out.

We have never had a problem blocking the bypass, and i would reccomend it on a race engine.. That way you are assured all oil is being filtered all the time.
As long as you are using a good oil filter like a Wix then you wont have to worry about the pressure blowing it apart or damaging it. Now if you are using something like a junk FRAM filter i would be more worried about the filter paper collapsing inside the can and causing big problems.
Also a good idea to let the oil warm up a little before you race it (especially with heavyweight oil) so that it flows well and can get through the filter easier.
