im building a hobby stock and want to know what i could do to the heads block and intake that would be legal to get more power out of them we have a 9.1 rule and must run a stock head no porting stock intake no porting and a 2 barrell rochester carb.
what are good casting # heads
and what year intake flows better heard the older ones like the 1960 or so intakes do

not a whole lot you can do other than good springs. we run 882's never had any trouble with them and they are pretty ez to find . myself i run an intake off an older 400 non egr motor but i've heard of guys saying that the egr ones are showing better flow i used to run one but never noticed any difference when i switched

993 or 441 are good flowing open chambers and as for intake manifold, 1970 to 1972 station wagons with non egr's are good.

as far as heads go if u can run camlehump id go with them but if u run under imca type rules the 441 487 993 are the way to go. My friend and one of my sponsor sell heads and motors to jrs and midwest motorsports and they both told him that those are the best flowing heads under imca rules. they all flow about the same the 487x have ten more cc intake runners. and as far as stock 2 barrel intakes they all flow about the same acording to brenszki, but the best that works for us is the 70 to 72 impalas that came with 275 or 300 hp thay have a round circle on the passenger side of intake next to the carb flang and a nother circlce by the thermastat hosung.I have a few freinds that race hobby stocks and they say the power is in the heads. If u need any heads and intakes let me know i have a grage full of them plus more to be torn done yet. hope this helps

id be interested let me know what u got and how much i could tell some friends as well and probaly sell alot of them for ya do u have any of those intakes if so id take one.
and il take some heads also. email me with a list of what u have for sale and il get back with ya

What about valve seat angles? If lift is regulated to low .400's and actually teched, then a 30 degree valve seat with corresponding 3 angle valve job could be helpful. 30 degree seat generates open are faster than a 45 dgree seat. 30 degree seat only becomes a liability after lift to valve diameter ratio exceeds 1/4. Also cut valve pockets with factory type cutter.(no porting rule)Also back cut valves. This should help any of the castings
