Ok...we have a 350 with a relatively new starter on it, and we are having some problems. I think it has a problem with the solenoid, but I am not sure. The way it is wired up is with power directly to the starter, and a switched 12V lead to the solenoid. The problem is that when you hit the switch, it turns over fine, but when you take your finger off of the switch, the motor continues to turn over, sometimes until you cut the power, but sometimes it will stop after a few seconds. We put a new switch in, and that didn't solve the problem. Is there anything we can do to correct this, or do we need a new starter? Otherwise, it works fine. Sheesh, if it isn't one thing it is another...

wire it up with a ford silinoid do a search on here i had a post in the spring that explains how to wire it up i could go thru it all again but it's kinda long lol

take your pos battery cable and hook it to the right side of the ford sil along with another wire witch will be your hot wire for your on/off switch then run a jumper wire from the hot side of your on /off to one side of your push button .then run a wire off the other side of the push button to the small post on the left side of the ford sil and then run a wire off the big post on the left side down to your starter this has to be a big heavy wire. on the starter you need to run a jump wire also from the big post to the small post closest to the block final part is run a good ground from the block to the frame. now it will turn over. now to get the power to the dist and your gauges just run a wire off the other side of your on/off switch and there you have it there will be now power to the hie untill you hit the switch and the starter is on it's own circit

here you go this way you can turn the motor over without it firing comes in handy for putting belts on and setting valves also keeps that big power wire from causing a fire if you ever get in a big wreck because there is no power going to the stater unless you push the botton

Make sure you have a GOOD ground also!!

There's not enought clearance between the starter gear and the flywheel. Put a shim in and it will work fine.

i had the same problem yesterday. we put in a new motor and the starter got stuck. i turned the switched off and it still turned over. we finally took to battery cable off and it finally quit. we have a ford selinoid hooked up. what caused that???

the contacts in the ford solinoid stuck together , next time rap on the solenoid with a hammer it will quit that

ac i would replace your push button if you have it wired like i described above the only way to get power to that ford sil is thru the push botton
