A friend of mine s engine started missing the other night during a heat race, checked plugs and one end of a plug had fell apart and was missing,so we changed it and it still had a problem ! The next day we ran a compression test and seen a problem, removed left bank head and noticed the head gasket between the front 2 cylinders was gone and the head and block had a groove worn in them where the gasket use to be.... What could have caused this cause it looks like now the block and head are junk do to this groove in them.. Any ideas ???

I have had this happen to a 355 1 time. The head gasget went then leaned the 2 holes out burning a hole between #3 and #5. I had them both fixed and ran them for many races with no problem, but i took them to a place that welds cast and they did a great job.

Improper head bolt torque is one of the most common things that cause this, (ie. head bolt holes in the block are not clean, head bolts are stretched or bad threads in the block.) Another problem I have came across is using cheap head gaskets on high compression engines.

we have ran into this problem many times with the 400 but never a 350. If the motor got hot and it had a lot of compression it will do this. Every time it happened to us it was because when it got hot whoever was driving would not come off the track water started seeping through and the compression just washed it out. It can be fixed my dad welded 3 of ours up filed it down and my brother is running on now with no problems
