I know that the best way to figure the deck height on a block is to mock it up, but if I just want to get an idea of what it should be, what is the method for calculating deck height mathematically?

(Stroke x .5)+ (rod length) + (compression height of piston) + (however much you want the piston down in the hole), or - (however much you want the piston OUT of the hole)= final dimension of block from crank centerline to deck. I don't know if this answers your question or not, but this is the way I do it. Saves lots of time down the road, at least for me.
