i have a bone stock poncho 400 i'm going to run in my enduro/figure 8 car and was wondering if anybody else has been running this and what a safe setting would be to time it at my old one always ran hot i was hoping bumping the timing up might help along with a bigger radiator and a better carb

Pontiacs usually wan't a little more timing than a Chevy. Start at 38 deg. Also be aware of what year the engine is, cuz some of the pre 71 engines were very high compression and would require a splash of race gas to keep from overheating.

I run a 400 pontiac in our cruiser w/ 68 heads that are high comp. and we have to run about 32 deg. But with a stock 74 motor which would have lower compression heads you could run a little more timing--also Hondo we have always run the high compression heads and havent had no problems with overheating and all that we run is 91 octane pump gas
