posted July 21, 2002 10:40 PM when i time my 355 chevy the timing mark is steady until about 3200 rpms then the mark starts jumping back and forth about 3/4 of an inch what would cause this?

Bill: Try a new dist. gear first. Its cheap and easy and quick to replace. If its an older motor the timing chain/gear may be worn. 3/4 inch movement is not so bad that I wouldn't run it. Always try to quick easy and cheap first. sixwillwin

timing jumps! we had asimialar problem. i made the supenion work, so the driver chould control the car. the problem was he chould also stand on the gas more. what happened was we ate the distruibor gear? ok changed that the oil and filter cuttinng it open for metal. ran that nite. the problem was that the cam walked forward.chewed up cam gear dist gear dist. check your timing cover and button! go alu.

posted July 26, 2002 08:45 PM I got the same thing from cam walk....put a spacer in the front and bronze gear and been fine since.
