I can't keep it in gear as soon as i lift it pops out of gear. I've change the trans twice. Changed from stock type clutch to coupler. Changed 3rd member. Tried adding a trans crossmember. Replaced the pilot bearing twice. It only happens in third I've changed the rear gear and raced in second and haven't had any problems. This is in a modified.

you may want to check the body and see if it is flexing and pulling it out of gear..that or you have another bad trainy.

OK OK I may be a little biased but just put a good POWERGLIDE in and forget about it

I adjusted the linkage for a ton of over travel to make sure it wasn't being yanked out of gear. I haven't checked bellhousing to block alignment, But why will it stay in 2nd gear?

3rd gear is straight thur. the input is directly connected to the output. in other words, one turn of the input=one turn of the output. that produces a 1 to 1 gear ratio, if there is an even slight misalignment there, it will 'pop' out of gear, especially on decell, because the synchronizing hub can't hold it in when there is a bind problem. hope this helps you, btw some gm bell housings have a large centering hole in the center, which do not center up some 3 speed trans, you cannot rely on the bolts only to center the trans perfectly, if your engine has been line bored, this can be the cause too, i think quarter master makes a dowel pin realignment kit for such engines

this is a chevy trans on a ford motor the bellhousing has the big hole but I put the big plate on the front of the trans. That sounds logical I'll check the alignment maybe replace the bellhousing it's the only thing I haven't changed that and the driveshaft
