I have been racing for 12 years and this is really frustrating me. My street stock overheats in 4 laps. 355 flat top, 455 cam, cast iron intake, holley 4412 71 jets, cast iron exhaust, new 22x19 rad, new stewart water pump, fan 3/4" from rad shrouded, stock HEI 34 degrees advanced, plugs show dark straw color. What gives?

powerglides, if your shroud is good and well built, i would start by putting a bigger radiator in. most guys in my area that run hobby stock are running 27.5" or 31" radiators!! hope this helps

Hey Powerglides. I agree with hobby12 on the radiator size. I ran my camaro with a 19x31, or somewhere in that area. Also, a couple of suggestions that won't hurt you to much on the power side. You might want to lower your timing to 32degs and jet up a couple notches. You don't really loose that much power unless you are washing out your rings with excessive fuel, etc. Hope that helps.

I ran street stocks with engine setups much like you have and I was never able to run jetting much lower than 75 or 76 - even running at a pretty high elevation.

Thanks for the replies guys! Thats what I'm going to do. Go up on the jets and I have a new 19x31 alum rad to put in. I ran a 22" rad in my IMCA and a 24x24 rad in my sportsman mod with no trouble? But I went on the stewart website and they say run the BIGGEST rad you can fit so I AM!

I always had overheating problems until I put a six blade fan on my car and now the thing won't break 180 degrees. Do you have a restrictor in your goose neck? I have a 3/4 restrictor in

I run a 17" six blade fan. Per stewarts tech on the website I do not run a restrictor?

THANKS A BUNCH GUYS!! OK here's the update. I put a 31" rad in with a cookie cutter shroud. went to 75 jets. took out the stat. (put it back in for the feature). ran 190 under green 220 under caution. For this week I am building a full shroud. Also driving water pump at crank speed. (now 20 percent underdriven). Thats if I can get to the garage. Dumb *** me tripped on a hunk of clay running to change a tire on a buddies super stock and sprained my ankle!
