ok heres my deal
406 12-1 comp 530 solid cam camel hump heads 6 inch rods.
its getting fire and getting fuel,it is timed at 36 (well it was last year and hasnt been touched).all the valvetrain is working.
my engine builder told me to do a compression check.all cylinders were below 80 except for one.# 7 was 130.
are the rings "stuck" as my engine builder suggested?

Get your hands on a cylinder leakage tester and check it out before you tear into it blindly. You may have some rusted valves and/or seats.

I would also try to have some one hold the engine from turning over and put air in the cylinders each one on its compression stroke. Then listen through the headers on both sides and the carb. and watch for bubbles in the radiator.Checks valves and head gaskets. Just a thought

TRY PULLING THE SPARK PLUGS AND SQUIRTING SOME OIL INTO CYLINDERS. CRANK THE ENGINE A FEW TIMES, THEN REPLACE THE PLUGS AND START IT UP!!!

Get yourself a cylinder leak down tester like dryslick said a stop the guess work. I would throw the compression guage in the garbage.
