are car is very fast at the last part of the straight but kind of doggy out of the corner, and the tires are not spinning so its not that, do u think advacing the cam 4 degs would help or not? the only thing we havent changed on the motor is the cam. The timming is ok its set a 38 degs. or should we just change the cam? thanks

yes lubeguy, advancing the cam will lower the powerband, but in some cases you could be creating piston to valve clearance problems

Hey lubeguy, ford5 is right on both counts. But did you degree the cam on installation? Do you have a 3 or more position key timing chain assembly. The multiple key sprockets can fool you sometimes. The cam could be retarded instead of being advanced. Most all cams are ground so the zero/zero timing marks on the sprockets are really 4 degrees advanced. So if a 3 key sprocket is in the retard position the cam might be at true zero.

Your cam could be a little too wild for what you are using it for. If the lobe seperation is too big (maybe 112 degrees) then you might need to go down to 108 degrees to help out of the turns (but its always a compromise). Maybe reducing the the rocker ratio would have a similar effect but you can't physicaly alter the lobe seperation of the cam.

is this a hyd cam or solid ? i have increased the exaust lash by .004 at a time to get more off the corrner.also as posted by others your center line may not be correct.a cam with a 106 or 108 may be what you need.hope this helps

ok thanks for the info guys thease are the specs for my cam 114 lobe center 465intake lift 488 exhaust lift advertised duration 282 intake and 292 exshaust its a hydralic cam and the timming chain is straight up on zero. most guys i race against have cams with 108 lobe center with higher lift cams to. Should i just buy a new cam? any advice on that, i have used isky cams before seemed to work good but rough idle and its sapose to sound stock. and we didnt degree the cam we put it in,a freind used the same cam a few years ago and he won alot but things have changed since then people run bigger motors and have good gears now. any advice would be apprciated thanks again

is running out of power before the turn or still pulling if it's still pulling and all my gauges looked good ZI'd drop me so more gear in it and see what happens if it pulls out of the corner then and dies on the strait then I would call cam craft or whom ever you use and say looka here I need this power range and go from there a motor with heavier parts in it takes more to stand up and a little gear will help it sometime JMO

put 1.6 rockers on the intake and advance the cam 8 degrees . If it changes to too much bottom end then split the differance. If that don't wake up the bottom end then change the camshaft.

Since you say you didn't degree the cam, you might want to install it properly and give it another chance before you buy somthing else. You need to degree the cam properly before advancing or retarding.

What rev range are you running in? The cam you have in sounds like it would work best in the 4500-7500 rpm range.
