This weekend I had the car out for the first time & I noticed the oil temp gauge was wierd. After running a few laps it was at 220 then the caution came out & driving around under caution it would move real qwick when you would hit the gas from 210 to 240. The water temp was never above 160. My question is was this normal?? This is the first time to run a oil temp gauge & don't even have a clue whats hot & whats not. Thanks in advance.

I think your sending unit is mounted where it isnt in the oil. By splashing the oil around it gets a true reading when the oil covers it. Oil and water temps should be about the same, the oil usually about 10deg higher.

Everything I've read on about oil temps is they will usually average about 30 degrees hotter than your water temp. That is if you are not running an oil cooler.
