I heard a while back that there was a GM starter for v6 S-10 pickups that was basically a mini-starter that would bolt right up to a pre '86 350 small block chevy. If this is true, does anybody know which year S-10 I should be looking for? My starter is about to die and am looking to go with something lighter and smaller ...

We use a starter off of a 1996 Chevy 350 out of a truck, it is a gear reduction starter, and we get them due to the fact that our driver manages a salvage yard here in OKC, but you could also go to your nearest parts store, and buy one with a lifetime warranty, and you would only have to buy one starter for the rest of the time you run it, burn one up, take it back and warranty it. Its cheating, but it does work.

Almost forgot, Im not sure if it makes a difference or not, but the starters come off of a 4x4 Chevy

Is that the straight across bolt pattern or is it offset? Thanks!

The starter you are looking for is off of the s-10 4x4 with the 4.3 in it. I beleive the bolts are straight across. They cost about the same as the cheaper minis do. So if you buy one get a lifetime warranty and forget to tell them you run it on a stock car.or scrounge around and get one from a scrap yard. They are on the early 90's and up S-10's. Around here s-10's are a dime a dozen so it shouldn't be hard to find one laying around. Hope this helps.

Slam, thanks for the info. That was what I was looking for. I had been looking at mid to late 80's S-10s. Should have went a little further.
