I'm looking to buy another motor to rebuild and have as a spare. Any suggetions as what to look for?? We are running ford--302 now and would like to stay in that size motor. I found an old 79 thunder bird and a 66 ford pickup motor I can buy cheap--will either of these work as good blocks to bore-stroke and biuld up.. I'm new at this so help me here.... thanks Wheels

The best 302 blocks weve found is the early mexican block (it has spanish markings on it)it is also hard to find. 2nd best is the late 80s 302 roller block out of the 5.0 mustang has a lot more beef. we pay 150 for a short block at flap.com when they get them in

Well If you have run a 302, try and get a 351 windsor. Yeah the 302 is lighter, but cubic inch is horsepower! I have run most types of Ford engines. I like the 351 windsor comb, Because of the torque and horsepower but mainly cause of the longevity of it! Build one right it will live a long time! Plus all you parts will interchange like brackets, bellhousing etc.... Why not get more bang for your BUCK!

thx for the input guys--- We maybe need to give thought to the 351--- What are some of the vehicles that this engine can be found in. We have an old salvage yard near and he may just have one... He's so old he can't remember the sizes lol... How are some of the ways I can identify them... thanks wheels

They are in all types of cars and trucks. The valve covers will look the same but the intake manifold is wider that is the main visible difference. Look for them in LTDs, T Birds, Cougars, etc....

Look at the block right behind the distributor. On a 302 the block will almost be even with distributor. On a 351 the block will be raised about 3/4 to 1 inch. I'm talking about the lifter valley flange.

The truck blocks have beefier roda and should be tons better. what are the best intake manifolds? I've got a 72 block with a 77 egr intake (which really looks like crap) and a 75 (which I think looks a little better). It has to be stock two or four barrel, but has to be a two barrel carb.

The earlier 2bbl manifolds work good if you cut the divider out under the carb so it looks like a single plane intake. We have tried it and had one flowed it makes a big difference.
