I've heard that you can't use dome pistons with Vortec heads. I need a set of heads for a short block that has mild pop-up pistons and I was looking at these heads. Could I get away with it?

Yes you can get away with it . You will probably have to do some small modifications to the piston's though . I have a friend in California who uses Vortec's on a 377 , with a 9cc domed SRP piston , and he has no problems . I think that he rounded off the square spark plug boss in the combustion chamber also . The engines that I use the Vortec head on are flat top engines , so I'm just relaying what my friend has done .

Thanks for the input. I guess it might be worth setting the heads on the block with some clay on the pistons and inspecting the critical areas. I'll spend some time with it and see.

FWIW, Keith Black now makes a pop-top piston specifically for these heads. Next claimer I build, I might just try a set.
