Me and my dad just built a pontiac motor for my lemans cruiser. I just went over there and changed the oil and put some mobil 1 back in it. When I went to check my oil i rammed the dipstick back in and a piece about an inch and a half broke off and I think it has fell down into my oil pan. Am I gona have to pull the motor to get it back out? i tried running a magnet down the hole but I didnt get nothin. My dad will know what I'll have to do but he's asleep now and I was just wondering if n e 1 has n e suggestions.

get a magnetic drain plug.....start the motor run the car forward and backward a few dozen times.......then pull the plug again.
if you are good, you can pull one plug and slip the other plug in without dumping all the oil.........when you pulll the magnetic plug shove the stock one back in......without letting the oil drain again. You may have to do this a few times before you catch the chunk of dip-stick.
You should also jack-up the car so the drain plug is the lowest corner of the pan..let the motor run a little while when it's jacked-up..this will help get the heavy metal piece to the magnetic drain plug........
