Well, I am usually concerned mostly with initial start up. With a new camshaft its good to start the engine and run it at 2500 to 3000 rpm for 20 to 30 minutes. I run Pennzoil 25W/50 engine oil from day one.. You really need a coupkle guys to start one the 1st to look for leaks and the other to watch guages..

The only thing I do different, Is block the radiator up to get the motor temp up as fast as possible. other than that word for word.

I use 30w valvoline for breakin, pouring it in with valve covers off so I able to get a good coat of oil on all the rockers, springs, pushrods and lifters. Then I prime it, prime it and prime it some more. I have the distributor premarked for timing so all I have to do is drop it in tighten it down and start it up. Run it for 20 minutes then I like to shut it down and let it cool and then run it through another heat cycle just to make sure there are no leaks. After it cools down check all the bolts and retighten if needed. I use a System 1 oil filter, I then clean it, drain the oil, refill filter and engine with 20W50 valvoline and race it for 3 weeks on conventional oil then switch to synthetic. The bearings still look brand new at the end of the season.
Prime it, prime it and prime it some more!!!!
