looking for some help on what heads to run on my 406 and 377 engines for next year. I run a Dirtworks car in Southern Illions at ump tracks. We are allowed to run aluminum heads. Just purchased the 377 shortblock with keith black flat top pistons. I have been running 461 steel heads with 2.02 and 1.60 valves 64 cc chamber also have a set of 882 heads with a 78 cc chamber. I am wondering what other than the weight is the advantage to running aluminum head and if anyone has a recommedation on what heads are the best Thanks

I honestly believe it depends on the RPM you will turn as to wether you need huge heads to help your engine perform. The big heads mainly have an effect when you are turning big RPM's. I am talking 7500 to 8000. I don't imagine you would be turning these numbers, so what you described for heads sound fine to me. Just make sure they are port matched and see if you or someone else can polish the runners for smoother airflow. The weight thing is probably your biggest concern at this point. And aluminum heads are also repairable and they disapate heat better. Good luck.

Well I really believe in the aluminum head because it is lighter and gets rid of the heat faster. Now as for your head volume I recomend running the smallest chamber possible that still offers the most flow possible. I run aluminium 48cc chamber heads that really flow alot because of the way it is ported out and the size of the runners. This gives me alot of compression and flow.
I have 2.08" intake valves and 1.60 exhaust
