I was wondering why do diesels not have computers or a wiring harness in it. Because I while back I was in an accident and I had to changeover my gas engine to a diesel frame which I thought would be easy but nooooo. I was wodering why dont they have computers in them and why does it cost so much to changeover.

I am now doing my 2nd diesel change over. Putting a Benz diesel into a Dodge 1/2 ton. It is a lot of work, but I have more time than money. Diesels do have computers, just depends on what year ect ect. as with gas engines. The reason they cost more is greed. A Cummings water pump is 230 bucks. It cost about 7 bucks to make. Its a market controll thing, if your options are nil, you gotta pay.

well definetly I use too work in a delearship you can not believe how much they overcharge. Well I recently took the 4 cylinder out of my 85 nissan sentra. Well when I was done I two months later I crashed it stupid me. Well not known to me my father had a spare body same year same model even same color but it was a diesel. I was told by a mechanic X friend of mine that we would have to take engine back out and the entire wiring and computer out of the car. It was basically stripping the entire car down to nothin. But I lost that job at the dealership so had to pay someone to do it. Back to my original question why ohh why didnt this new Nissan diesel body didnt have a computer or wiring harness.

I cant answer the Jap diesel question. I have a 86 dodge I put a Volvo diesel in, no computer. My ford with IH V8 diesel has one. My '01 Cummings Dodge has at least 2 of them. The Benz (into a Dodge)has one but I can by pass it for this truck. Find a Nisson board and post your question, someone out there will tell you,
