I am having trouble finding a 350 to run in my hobby stock trans am. I have found a lot of 305's. Someone told me that he thought that one of the old high output 305's would make a pretty good engine. I think that these engines were rated at 205 hp. Would it be worth the money to build one. Everyone else is running 350's or 355's. I run a big 3/8 mile track. (Batesville AR) The track usually goes real dry slick during the features. Any input would be appreciated.

I would say that you should wait for that 350..I'm assuming you are going to run pure stock or super stars, but I would still use the 350. The crankshaft and rods from a 305 are the same as the 350, but the pistons are much smaller.

I have known people to use the 305 and have it bored to a 350. I don't know if it cost more than a normal bore job, maybe someone on the forum has done this before.

Well if your really strapped for cash and really can't find a 350, if you come across a 307 you would be much better off, it has a much larger bore, and it's possible to make much more power with the 307 than the 305, but you will still be at a disadvantage in cubic inches. You could allway's stroke the 307 using a 350 crank (or 305 crank), and it will get you much closer, just have to get the right pistons. Some guy's will give you a 307 for free.
