I RACE IMCA HOBBY STOCK AND I DONT HAVE ALOT OF MONEY TO PUT INTO MY CAR OR MOTOR. WHAT CAN I DO TO MY MOTOR THAT IS CHEAP AND WILL LET ME GO FAST. I AM A ROOKIE JUST GETTING STARTED. REMEMBER IN IMCA HOBBY STOCK THERE IS A $325 MOTOR CLAME. SO IF YOU WOULD PLEAS HELP SOME HOW THANK YOU

If memory serves me correctly, there is a rule requiring 2bbl carbs in this class right? If so, I would concentrate my efforts on compression. You will most likely also face rules against domed pistons, milling heads, etc. So about the only way you are going to get compression is by using smaller chambered heads. I used to build similar motors (sb chevy) for a hobby class and had good luck with 305 heads. They are plentiful, cheap, and breath well enough for a 2bbl.

Another way to build cylinder pressure is by using a camshaft with less overlap. This is the time that both valves are open. You may wish to contact one of the cam manufacturers for a specific recommendation.

Other than that, try to keep your rotating/reciprocating assembly as light as possible. This will help you accelerate faster off the corners. If you are able to make good weight reductions here, it will require you to rebalance the engine, but I am convinced that is the best money you can spend on a race motor anyway.

Go to www.parkercarburetion.com and read about my Performance Tuning to WIN CD. It is far and away the cheapest bang for the buck you'll ever get, because I wrote it for the Saturday night racer on a limited budget. If you do everything it recommends you'll spend from $200 to $250 on your car and you'll definitely be faster next season.

Claim some elses motor, its the only way you can afford to sell the 3000-4000 dollar motors for $325

i would use 041 cylinder heads if you can't use double humps. we won alot of hobby stock races with those and contact lazer cams for a camsaft they did ours and it was awsome. but the most important thing is getting it to handle. if it dont turn left you arn't going to go fast no matter how good your motor is. we won 10 races in 2 years wioth our hobby stock then switched to street stock and boy what a mistake we made so have fun in hobby stock it is a great class and it dont take alot of money trust me we didnt have much in ours. but we have scales and thats where the difference is. need anything just ask

I agree with cas if you aren't handling and have alot of power it is not going to make any difference. A slower car that is handling better will beat you everytime. So what I would recommend is to lighten up your car as much as possible. Take all the inner fenners and inner door walls out. Get the hood and trunk lid down to the bare skin. Once you have done that you need to fine someone with some scales buy yourself some lead weigh and put your weight where you need it. Spring and shock combos are also a necessary factor in this. I am also in the process of doing the same thing so if I can help let me know.

What car chassis are you using?Where do you race at?
