We have our generator mounted to the front of our trailer and we are trying to come up with some way to quiet it down to leave it running and not be annoyed by it all the time.

Thought about changine mufflers or maybe running a pipe back underneath the trailer with a muffler like those big rv's have or even running a long pipe under the tow vehicle to dump exhaust in front of it. Obviously it would have to be taken on and off for road travel but just an idea.

Anyone ever tried to do anything like this or have any advice.???

Get your hands on a WKA RLV spec muffler their pretty queit anyway but you could mount a car muffler under your trailer then stick the rlv muffler into the muffler inlet under the trailer then do a little plumbing and I don't think you'd even be able to hear your generator running. If your gen. is mounted in rubber mounts you may want to use some flex pipe to plumb the muffler with. Hope this helps.

This kind of brings me back to being a kid. I had a go cart that we had rigged up for "hunting". It had a 8 hp Briggs on it but it was awfully loud. I removed the muffler and put a piece of pipe(3/4 NPT I believe) in the motor. Off of this pipe I added a tee and 2 short sections of pipe. I then added 2 tees to the short pieces and installed mufflers on each for a total of 4 mufflers. It definitely made it quieter, al you could hear was the chain and the tires singing on the road. This might not look to cool but it did work for us, it might work for you.

I have seen peolpe run the exhaust up to the top of the trailer and it seemed to work pretty well. No fumes to deal with either.

The motorcycle muffler is a good deal,a buddy of mine used to drive a Vega, when the muffler went bad,he put a Honda MC muffler on it,it was a wierd sounding sucker, and when you heard it you knew who it was, every one around the shop would say"here comes Arc Satchel,I hope he brung some beer with him"!!

I've got a 5250 generac with 12HP Techumseh engine and that sucker gets more comments at a race track than open exhaust late models. years ago at The Show Me, a guy finally walked over and said to run an extension cord to his motor home and turn that thing off! We have tried all kinds of piping and mufflers. Finally ******* in 3/4" pipe with a 2" bell reducer and welded a short stock car muffler on it. made a little brace on the generator frame for a hanger. not pretty but it is effective. ( i wish i had bought the Honda generator now)
