Sweet wins U.S. Outlaw Mini Sprint National Championship

California resident Brad Sweet made it a perfect race weekend at Auto Tire and Parts Racepark, winning the preliminary night race and U.S. Outlaw Championship for 1200cc U.S. Outlaw Mini Sprints Saturday night. The race for the 1200cc Mini Sprints is the Daytona 500 or Indy 500 for the racing organization.

Jeff Harden scored a second place finish with Dan Van Dyke finishing the championship night in third. Doug Hunting and Mike Kertshcer rounded out the top-five finishers

The Miller Lite Modified feature event sponsored by Cliff’s Rent-to-own went down to the wire with Old Appleton, MO resident Larry Hull picking up his second feature win at the Auto Tire and Parts Racepark.

Chris Hall paced the field for four laps but couldn’t hold off Terry Baker who led for twice for five laps. Hull later passed Baker on the 11th circuit for the lead. Baker would never retake the lead, while Hall would grab the top-spot only for a short time on the 19th lap.

The front three drivers paced the field for the entire event, racing three-wide for most of the event with the lead exchanging hands six times in 25 laps between Baker, Hall and Hull.

Hull grabbed the frontrunner spot right back and led the final 6 laps for the win. Hall would pass Baker on the white flag lap to finish second, Baker crossed the line third. Shawn Haynes battled his way through the field to finish fourth with Greg Geiler scoring a finish in the top-five.

The $500 top-prize for the Pure Streets went to Nathan Retting of Sikeston. Retting, visiting the track for the first time, he led all 15 laps of the feature event.

Greg Casey pursued Retting for sevens laps before getting passed by Kevin Holman for second. Casey would eventually finish fifth and Holman would end the night in second. Dietrich Bollinger and Leo Kiefer made their way through the field to finish third and fourth.

Garrett Moll and Wesley Short continued their winning ways in the Motorsports Unlimited Cruiser division winning the $300 top prize. The team of Bartles/Trankler finished second with Southard/Koening finishing third. Heery/Owens and Golightly/Despain rounded out the top-five finishing fourth and fifth.
