Eldora Speedway's owner and promoter Earl Baltes is resting comfortably after successful heart bypass surgery
The 79 year-old mentor underwent a heart catherization on Wednesday, December 6 in Dayton, Ohio at The Heart Hospital, where it was detected that he had blockage of major proportion within four arteries. With blockage rated at 60%, 80%, 90% and one at 99.9%, the doctor ordered immediate triple bypass surgery, which was performed on Baltes Thursday afternoon.
With no apparent heart damage and an otherwise healthy status, Baltes emerged from the surgery sore and tired. His condition is being monitored by the hospital's Dr. Hans Zwart, who performed by surgery.
Baltes, who also just completed cataract surgery on both eyes, will require four to six weeks of recovery at home and then assures everyone, that it will be business as usual at his famed speedplant.
In fact, the cagey promoter referred to this as only "a pit stop to refresh and get better" and will not affect the upcoming season at Eldora, which will get underway Saturday, March 31 with the Sprint division of the United States Auto Club.
Get well cards may be directed to Baltes at 13929 SR 118 in New Weston, OH 45348.
