"Big 10 Steel Head Series" Opener, Saturday
Kennith Wessner Ford-Mercury in Winchester presents the "Big 10" Steel Head Super Series with Round #1 set for this coming Saturday, April 12 at Winchester (TN) Speedway.
The first event of this ten race series is set as gates open Saturday at 3:00 PM, driver’s meeting at 5:45 with hot laps to start about 6:00 PM. Late Model time trials will occur around 6:45 PM. This series is for 362 Steel Head Late Models with flat top pistons, any intake manifold and any brand tire with rear tires (rear only) needing to stick 60 or greater when cold. We will stick rear tires prior to time trials and feature event. Note: Winchester Speedway track rules call for some sort of muffler (any muffler is acceptable). We do allow a one race grace period for first time visitors but we encourage all first time visiting racers to have some sort of muffler but you will not be disqualified on the first visit if you have no muffler. Other classes in action this Saturday in addition to the Big 10 Late Models will be: IMCA "Type" Open Wheels ($600 to Win), Super Stocks ($300 to Win), Outlaw Mini Stocks($300 to Win) and Mini Stocks($250 to Win). Two Barrel Late Models will not run on "Big 10" event races.
We encourage racers to come and join us this weekend and if you have not been to Winchester this season you will be pleasantly surprised by the facility improvements such as: Newly constructed rest room facilities in the pit area and main grandstand area. New Pit concession stands. New lighting system. A state of the art timing system and electronic scoreboard plus a new state of the art, race car scales in pit area. Tim and Jana Smith are the new owners and promoters.
Winchester Speedway along with Duck River Speedway have scheduled this 10 event series in 2003 with five shows each at Duck River Speedway and Winchester Speedway. The Points fund goal is $12,000 (the series will start with a $5,000 points fund and will be increased for every race entry during all ten events with the goal being $12,000 minimum based on an average car count of 25 racers per show / $20 of every $60 entry fee on $1,500 to win shows and $40 of every $100 Entry fee for the $3,000 to win shows) in 2003. The 2003 Big 10 Super Series point fund will be split among the Top 15 racers in the final points standings. The 2003 Big 10 series will consist of six $1,500 to win shows (3 at each track) and there will also be four $3,000 to win and $250 to start (two at each speedway) Big 10 shows!
The 2003 Big 10 Steel Head Super series will utilize the same rules as the 2002 Big 6 series with two exceptions. A $250 Protest on MSD ignition boxes has been added and any driver in the Top 5 in points may protest (last season only Top 5 race finishers could protest the race winner). Basic rules are 362 Steel Head, flat top piston engines with any intake manifold. Rear tires must durometer 60 or greater when cold.
