SHAVER TAKES SECOND STRAIGHT BIG KAHUNA AND ECKERT WINS SECOND STRAIGHT
TITLE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

CUMBERLAND, MD - Steve Shaver of Parkersburg, WV won his second straight
"Big Kahuna" 75 Saturday night for the United Dirt Track Racing Association
Pro DirtCar Series at The Rock Allegany County Speedway. Rick Eckert of
York, PA finished sixth to clinch his second straight UDTRA Championship.

Shaver led all 75 laps after starting his Richard Construction
Rocket/Malcuit Monte Carlo from the pole position and was never seriously
challenged for the point to pick up the $15,000 top prize. Mike Balzano
of
Parkersburg, WV survived an early race tangle, and stayed close to the
leader, but had to settle for second in the Eddie's Auto Parts
Rocket/Russell Baker Monte Carlo.

Todd Andrews ran as high as second, but finished third in the Andrews Auto
Salvage GRT/Malcuit Taurus. Rick Aukland of Zanesville, OH claimed the
fourth spot in the Ostrom Painting and Sandblasting Rocket/Malcuit Grand
Prix. Steve Francis of Ashland, KY finished fifth in the Valvoline/Mopar
Parts Rocket/Stanton Intrepid.

Eckert's sixth-place finish in the Raye Vest Rocket/Cornett Taurus gave him
enough points going into the season ending Hardee's Shootout at Dixie
Speedway in Woodstock, GA on October 11-12 to clinch his second straight
UDTRA Championship, only the second driver in series history to win
back-to-back titles.

"It was great to wrap up the championship close to home," Eckert said. "A
lot of friends and family are here tonight, and even a couple of guys that
work in our shop, but don't travel with us, are here watching us race for
the first time this year. I wasn't really trying to worry about the
championship during the race and it really didn't sink in until we crossed
the scales. I'm also glad we wrapped it up here because Dale (McDowell)
is
really tough at Dixie."

The 1999 UDTRA Champion Dale McDowell of Rossville, GA came into the race
121 points behind Eckert. McDowell had to transfer to the main event
through the consolation race, and finished 12th in the Larry Shaw Race Cars
Rocket by Shaw/Custom Grand Prix. Francis has moved to within 52 points
of
McDowell for the second spot in the points chase.

Jimmy Mars of Elk Mound, WI took the seventh spot in the Jimmy Mars Racing
Mastersbilt/Pro Power Monte Carlo. Gary Stuhler of Greencastle, PA took
the
25th Promoter's Choice starting spot and rallied to finish eighth in the
Nininger Tire and Auto Service Rocket/Leggett Monte Carlo to earn the
Advance Auto Parts Hard Charger Award.

Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL finished ninth after starting 22nd in
the Lucas Oil/Dunn-Benson Ford Rocket/Eatmon Taurus. Tim Hitt of Weston,
WV
also dodged a bullet early in the race after a tangle with Balzano to round
out the top ten in the Morehead Auto Parts GRT/Russell Baker Monte Carlo.

Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville, TN finished 24th in the Calhoun's Restaurant
GRT/Clements Monte Carlo, but it was good enough to clinch the $10,000 Lucas
Oil Rookie of the Year Award for 2002.

While Shaver and Hitt battled for the lead on the opening lap of the race,
the caution flag came out after D.J. Myers of Greencastle, PA hit the
starting cone on the front straightaway with his Hershey's Racing Engines
Rocket/Hershey Monte Carlo. Myers was penalized to the rear of the field
for the complete restart.

Shaver got the hole shot over Hitt on the restart to take the lead followed
by Aukland, R.J. Conley of Wheelersburg, OH, and Balzano. Conley brought
out the next caution on lap 4 when he had a mechanical failure with his
Conley Trucking Rocket/Draime Grand Prix in turn one. This necessitated
a
double-file restart in front of the SPEED Channel cameras.

Balzano and Hitt battled side-by-side for second on the restart, and the
two
made contact in turn three. Both cars drifted towards the wall on the high
side of the track. Balzano drove away, but Hitt got sideways in the middle
of the track collecting several cars, including Eckert, who was running
seventh.

All but one car was able to keep rolling, as Chris Harr of Imler, PA spun
his Zeigler Chevrolet Mastersbilt/Leggett Monte Carlo in turn four to bring
out the caution flag. Shaver restarted out front with second-place Andrews
and third-place Balzano lined up behind him double-file followed by Aukland
and Francis. Hitt restarted eighth.

Balzano was able to race around the outside of Andrews on the restart to
reclaim the second spot while Bart Hartman of Zanesville, OH made the
biggest gain on the double-file restart, coming from ninth to fifth. Shaver
was able to pull out to a lead over Balzano, but by lap 17, Shaver was
beginning to lap cars. Balzano and Andrews were able to close in on Shaver
in lapped traffic.

After several attempts to lap Rodney Sweitzer of Stoystown, PA in the
Ritchey Sandblasting Rocket/Rhodes Monte Carlo, Shaver finally got by on
lap
25, but Balzano and Andrews got stuck behind Sweitzer, as Shaver pulled away
again. Sweitzer stalled on lap 39 to bring out the caution flag.

Shaver led Balzano, Andrews, Aukland, Francis, Eckert, Mars, and Hartman
down for the green flag. Stuhler had climbed up to the ninth spot after
starting 25th, and Pearson came from the 22nd starting spot to restart in
tenth. Deteriorating track conditions forced UDTRA officials to scrap the
double-file restarts for single-file restarts.

Hartman's top ten run came to an end on lap 55 when something broke on his
Imler's Rocket/BAH Monte Carlo sending him to the pit area. The field
stayed on the bottom of the track for the remaining 21 laps with Shaver
leading Balzano, Andrews, Aukland, Francis, Eckert, Mars, Stuhler, Pearson
and Hitt under the checkered flag.

Eckert was the fast qualifier among the 74 entrants with a lap around the
5/8-mile dirt oval in 20.956 seconds for an average speed of 107.368 miles
per hour. Shaver, Hitt, Aukland, R.J. Conley, Balzano, and Andrews won the
six 10-lap heat races with Aukland winning the Scott Performance Wire $150
Bonus Award.

Jeremy Miller of Charlotte Hall, MD won the first 15-lap Polaris ATVs
Consolation Race in the Page All Rocket/Hatfield Grand Prix, and McDowell
won the second 15-lap Polaris ATVs Consolation Race.

The next race for the UDTRA Pro DirtCar Series will be the season finale
on
October 11-12 with the $55,000-to-win 13th Annual Hardee's Shootout at Dixie
Speedway in Woodstock, GA. For ticket information call (770) 926-5315.

The next UDTRA action on SPEED Channel will be on October 10 at 11 p.m. ET
with action from the USA Nationals at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond,
WI. The Big Kahuna 2 from The Rock will air on October 17 at 11 p.m. ET.
