McDOWELL TAKES NINTH WIN OF THE SEASON AT ROME, GA

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

ROME, GA - Dale McDowell of Rossville, GA picked up his ninth win of the
season with the United Dirt Track Racing Association Pro DirtCar Series
Saturday night in the Rome Ford-Lincoln-Mercury "Fire On The Mountain" 50
before a packed house at Rome Speedway driving the Larry Shaw Race Cars
Rocket by Shaw/Custom Grand Prix.

McDowell took the lead from Marshall Green of Dalton, GA on lap 15 and then
pulled away for his 29th UDTRA Pro DirtCar Series career win, tying the 1999
UDTRA champion with Billy Moyer for second on the all-time list. McDowell
closed the gap on Rick Eckert of York, PA to 121 points with two races left
in the 2002 season.

"We made all of the right choices tonight because we experimented a little
bit the last time we were here, and learned a few things about this Rocket
by Shaw" McDowell said. "I don't know if we can catch Rick for the
championship because he has had an awesome year and has been very
consistent. He's completed all but two of the laps we've run all year long,
and that's tough to compete with."

Eckert finished second in the Raye Vest Rocket/Cornett Taurus, and all the
Defending UDTRA Champion has to do is finish sixth or better at the next
Pro
DirtCar Series race on October 5 in Cumberland, MD to win his second
straight title.

Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC started the evening fast, and finished that way.
Cook finished third in the Youngblood Concrete Mastersbilt/Cornett Taurus
after setting fast time among the 57 entrants with a lap around the 1/2-mile
high-banked clay oval in 14.208 seconds for an average speed of 126.689
miles per hour.

Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL took the fourth spot in the Lucas
Oil/Dunn-Benson Ford Rocket/Eatmon Taurus, and the 1996 UDTRA Champion
Freddy Smith of Knoxville, TN started 17th and finished fifth in the
Christenberry Trucking and Farms Warrior/Gaerte Monte Carlo.

Steve Francis of Ashland, KY took a provisional, started 23rd, and picked
his way through the field to finish in the sixth spot. Francis was the
Advance Auto Parts Hard Charger of the Race. Randle Chupp of Mooresville,
NC came on strong in the closing laps to claim the seventh position in the
Biscotti's Restaurant and Winery/Park Ohio Rocket/Draime Grand Prix.

Derrick Rainey of Powder Springs, GA finished eighth in the Precision Race
Cars Rocket/Race Tech Grand Prix, and ninth went to Ronnie Johnson of
Chattanooga, TN in the Stealth Carburetor Mastersbilt/Race Tech Grand Prix.
Gary McPherson of Dalton, GA rounded out the top ten in the Mastersbilt Race
Cars Mastersbilt/Race Tech Taurus.

Green took the lead at the drop of the green flag starting on the outside
of
the front row, followed by polesitter Eckert, McDowell, Rainey, and Pearson.
Green opened up a half-straightaway lead by the fifth lap, but pulled up
behind the last cars on the lead lap on the 12th lap. That enabled Eckert
to close in while Green tried to negotiate the heavy traffic in front of
him.

McDowell closed in on the two leaders on lap 14, and on lap 16, McDowell
dove under Eckert for the second spot in turn one. Before they got back
to
the start finish line, McDowell drove under Green coming off the fourth turn
to take the lead.

Cook hustled up to the fourth spot on lap 20. At the halfway point in the
race, all 24 starters were still running on the race track with McDowell
leading Green, Eckert, Cook, Rainey, and Pearson. By lap 30, Cook had
caught up with Green and Eckert to make it a three-car battle for the second
spot.

Eckert got the inside line on Green and the pair raced side-by-side for
second on lap 32. On lap 33, the tenth place driver Zach Nichols of
Cedartown, GA spun his Eastside Motors GRT/Race Tech Monte Carlo in turn
four to bring out the first caution flag of the race.

On lap 34, Duayne Hommel of Newport, TN spun out of the eighth spot in his
Stowers CAT Rental/Alert Gas and Oil Warrior/Pro Power Monte Carlo for the
second caution flag. On the restart, Eckert drove under Green for the
second spot going down the backstretch. Green began to fade in the Barto
Enterprises Rocket/Hatfield Monte Carlo.

Green's car stalled in turn two on lap 38 to bring out the third caution
flag of the race. McDowell led Eckert, Cook, Pearson, and Rainey down for
the restart. Chris Madden of Laurens, SC was sixth in the Goddard
Performance Warrior/Custom Grand Prix, and Smith had moved up to the seventh
spot, followed by McPherson, Francis, and Johnson.

Smith and Francis had found the inside groove to their liking, and Smith
moved up to fifth after the restart, and Francis passed McPherson for
eighth. Madden's run came to an end on lap 42 when he stalled in the second
turn. That set up a nine lap dash to finish. Francis drove around Rainey
for the sixth position on lap 43, and Cook started to look to the outside
of
Eckert.

Cook could pull along side Eckert to battle for the second spot going into
turn one, but Eckert got the better bite coming off the second turn to hold
the position. While Eckert and Cook fought for the second spot, race leader
McDowell has pulled out to a half-straightaway lead by lap 45, and put his
car on cruise control to the checkered flag.

The six ten-lap heat races were won by Eckert, Green, Rainey, McDowell,
Pearson, and Chupp. Jimmy Mars of Elk Mound, WI won the first of two 15-lap
Polaris ATVs Consolation Races in the Jimmy Mars Racing Mastersbilt/Pro
Power Monte Carlo, and Wade Knowles of Tyrone, GA won the second consy in
the H&M Auto Care Warrior/Brown Monte Carlo.

The next event for the UDTRA Pro DirtCar Series will be the 2nd Annual
$15,000-to-win "Big Kahuna" at the Allegany County Speedway in Cumberland,
MD on October 5.

The next UDTRA action on SPEED Channel will be on October 5 at 3 p.m. ET
with action from Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA. For the complete UDTRA
SPEED Channel schedule and a direct feedback link, visit the UDTRA web site
