ECKERT TAKES FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON AT FLORENCE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

UNION, KY - Rick Eckert of York, PA won his first United Dirt Track Racing
Association Pro DirtCar Series event of the season on Saturday night by
driving his Raye Vest Rocket/Cornett Taurus to victory in the Bluegrass
Nationals 100 at Florence Speedway. The Defending UDTRA Champion was in
the
right place, at the right time to take the lead on lap 84.

Eckert was riding in the third spot on lap 84 when early race leaders Bob
Pierce of Oakwood, IL and Dale McDowell of Rossville, GA got tangled up
in
turn one. The leader Pierce cut down a tire and slowed in front of
McDowell, who slid up the banking in an effort to get around Pierce.

Eckert drove under McDowell to take the lead, and then held off Steve
Francis of Ashland, KY to take the win. Francis set fast time on Friday
night, driving his Valvoline/Mopar Parts Rocket/Stanton Intrepid around
the
1/2-mile clay oval in 17.517 seconds for an average speed of 102.757 miles
per hour. The trend continued that no fast qualifier has won a Pro DirtCar
Series event this season.

The 1996 UDTRA Champion Freddy Smith of Knoxville, TN finished third in
the
Christenberry Trucking and Farms Warrior/Custom Monte Carlo. Brian
Birkhofer of Muscatine, IA took the fourth spot in the Seubert Calf Ranches
Mastersbilt/Pro Power Grand Prix. Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC rounded out
the
top five in the Youngblood Concrete Mastersbilt/Cornett Taurus.

Point leader and 1999 UDTRA Champion McDowell recovered from his tangle
with
Pierce to finish sixth in the Larry Shaw Race Cars Rocket/Custom Grand Prix.
With the win, Eckert closed to within 34 points of McDowell in the Pro
DirtCar Series point standings.

Wendell Wallace of Batesville, AR drove to the seventh spot in the JFR
Graphics/Monday Motorsports GRT/Gaerte Grand Prix. Shannon Babb of Decatur,
IL was eighth in the Car City Co. Rayburn/Dickens Monte Carlo, and Ronnie
Johnson of Chattanooga, TN finished ninth in the Goddard Performance
Warrior/Custom Grand Prix. The 1997 UDTRA Champion Billy Moyer of
Batesville, AR rounded out the top ten in the Petroff Towing/J&J Steel
Rayburn/Dickens Taurus.

Pierce grabbed the lead from the pole position at the start of the race,
followed by McDowell, Eckert, Francis, and Cook. Earl Pearson Jr. of
Jacksonville, FL brought out the first caution flag when his Lucas
Oil/Dunn-Benson Ford Rocket/Eatmon Taurus stalled. The field went back
to
green until lap 29 when Pearson lost a tire for the second caution.

Pierce stayed on the point in the Petersen Aluminum/Murphy Trucking
Rayburn/Pro Power Monte Carlo, followed closely by McDowell, Eckert,
Francis, Cook, Smith, Babb, and Birkhofer. Barry Bragdon of Wheelersburg,
OH spun the Finishing Touch Painting Rocket/T&H Monte Carlo in turn two
on
lap 49 to bring out the third caution flag.

Scott James of Lawrenceburg, IN stalled his Sheppard Excavating
Warrior/Dargie Monte Carlo in turn four to bring out caution flag number
four on lap 59. When the field went back to green, McDowell, Eckert,
Francis, and Smith continued to chase the leader Pierce. Birkhofer moved
up
to the sixth spot, and Cook dropped back to seventh, with Babb in the eighth
spot.

When Pierce suddenly slowed in turn one on lap 83, Eckert grabbed the point
from McDowell, who fell back to the seventh spot after recovering from his
slide in turn two. Pierce stopped on the track with the cut tire to bring
out the fifth and final caution flag on lap 84.

Eckert held off Francis, Smith, Birkhofer, and Cook for the final 17 laps
of
the race to take the win. McDowell came back to the sixth spot, and Wallace
charged up to seventh.

Jimmy Mars of Elk Mound, WI and Dan Schlieper of Pewaukee, WI shared the
Advance Auto Parts Hard Charger of the Race Award after both took
provisionals and started 23rd and 24th respectively. Mars finished 12th
in
the Jimmy Mars Racing Mastersbilt/Pro Power Monte Carlo, and Schlieper was
13th in the Pro Power Racing Engines GRT/Pro Power Monte Carlo.

Although he failed to make the main event, Mark Kraus of Stratford, WI was
the Lucas Oil Rookie of the Race with a seventh-place finish in the second
12-lap Polaris ATVs Consolation Race driving the Heeg Well Drilling
Mastersbilt/Pro Power Monte Carlo.

Cook picked up the JE Pistons $100 Bonus Award with a fourth heat race win,
and McDowell won the second heat race to pick up the Scott Performance Wire
$50 Bonus Award. Pierce won the first heat race to earn the pole position
for the main event, and Eckert won the third heat race.

Ted Nobbe of Batesville, IN won the first consolation race driving the Nobbe
Mower Shop Rocket/Zimmerman Monte Carlo. Rick Aukland of Zanesville, OH
drove the Ostrom Painting and Sandblasting Rocket/Malcuit Grand Prix to
victory in the second consolation race.

The UDTRA Pro DirtCar Series will be on the SPEED Channel this Monday
afternoon at 3 p.m. ET with a replay of the Jim Barna Log Systems 50 from
