McDOWELL TAKES FIFTH WIN OF THE SEASON IN HURON

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

HURON, SD - Dale McDowell of Rossville, GA continued his hot streak in
United Dirt Track Racing Association Pro DirtCar Series action on Monday
night by winning the 50-lap main event at Dakota State Fair Speedway in
front of a packed house.

The 1999 UDTRA Champion and current point leader was never challenged as
he
led all 50 laps in the Larry Shaw Race Cars Rocket/Custom Grand Prix for
the
$10,000 victory. It was McDowell's fifth win of the season, his fourth
in
the last five UDTRA Pro DirtCar Series events, and his second straight.

"We're on a hot streak right now, and I know I'd better enjoy it now because
streaks like this don't happen very often as competitive as this series
is,"
McDowell said. "It's special to win here in Huron because the fans really
support us here. They're very enthusiastic and they really make us feel
welcome."

Jimmy Mars of Elk Mound, WI finished second in the Jimmy Mars Racing
Mastersbilt/Pro Power Monte Carlo. Mars was able to reel in McDowell when
he was in lapped traffic, but two car lengths was as close as he got.

Defending UDTRA Champion Rick Eckert of York, PA took the third spot in
the
Raye Vest Rocket/Cornett Taurus. Eckert now trails McDowell in the UDTRA
points chase by 59 points, and is nine points in front of Mars in third
place.

Donnie Moran of Dresden, OH finished fourth in the QPI Tools Rayburn/Fisher
Monte Carlo. Dan Schlieper of Pewaukee, WI drove the Pro Power Racing
Engines GRT/Pro Power Monte Carlo to a fifth-place finish. Earl Pearson
Jr.
of Jacksonville, FL finished sixth in the Lucas Oil/Dunn-Benson Ford
Rocket/Eatmon Taurus.

The 1996 UDTRA Champion Freddy Smith of Knoxville, TN was seventh in the
Christenberry Trucking and Farms Warrior/Custom Monte Carlo and Matt Miller
of Waterville, OH took the eighth spot in the McCullough Motorsports
Rocket/Russell Baker Grand Prix.

Brian Birkhofer of Muscatine, IA came home in the ninth spot driving the
Seubert Calf Ranches Mastersbilt/Pro Power Grand Prix, and John Seitz of
Bemidji, MN rounded out the top ten in the Wes' Plumbing Mastersbilt/Tesar
Grand Prix.

At the start of the race, Moran, from the outside front row, led polesitter
McDowell into the first turn. But, the caution flag came out and UDTRA
ticketed Moran for jumping the start, and penalized him one row for the
restart. That moved Steve Francis of Ashland, KY up the outside front row
starting spot in the Valvoline/Mopar Parts Rocket/Stanton Intrepid.

McDowell led the field into turn one on the restart, followed by Francis,
Mars, Moran and Eckert. Eckert drove under Moran for the fourth spot coming
off the second turn on lap three. The caution flag came out on lap five
when Randy Korte of Highland, IL tangled with Brad Seng of Grand Forks,
ND
and John Bey of Deadwood, SD in turn three.

After repairs in the pit area, all three cars would continue. The next
caution flag came out on lap seven when Mark Kraus of Stratford, WI and
Chad
Chenoweth of Huron, SD got together in turn two. Chenoweth pitted his Five
Star Cellular GRT/Hatfield Grand Prix, and Kraus restarted the Heeg Well
Drilling Mastersbilt/Pro Power Monte Carlo.

Just after the restart, UDTRA officials brought out the caution flag, and
sent Francis to the back of the pack for hitting the starting cone on the
front straightaway. McDowell led Mars, Eckert, Moran, Schlieper, John
Anderson of Omaha, NE in the Tender Hearts Treasures GRT/Hatfield Grand
Prix, Pearson, Miller, Mitch Johnson of Hickson, ND, and Smith.

The field stayed green until lap 11 when Chenoweth spun in turn two to bring
out the fifth caution flag. When the field went back to green, McDowell
had
pulled out to a full straightaway lead over Mars by lap 15. At the halfway
point, it was McDowell, Mars, Eckert, Moran, Schlieper, Anderson, Pearson,
Smith, Miller and Johnson in the Northwest Auto Body GRT/Pro Power Grand
Prix.

McDowell caught the cars on tail end of the lead lap by lap 30, and Mars
began to close on the leader. Mars worked his way up to within a few car
lengths of McDowell when the caution flag came out on lap 42 when Anderson
cut down a tire. With the lapped cars going to the back of the pack for
the
restart, McDowell had a clear race track in front of him.

The field was slowed for a final time on lap 44 when Billy Ogle Jr. of
Knoxville, TN stalled the Calhoun's Restaurant GRT/Clements Monte Carlo
on
the front straightaway. McDowell led Mars, Eckert, Moran, Schlieper,
Pearson, Smith, Miller, Johnson, and Birkhofer down for the seven lap dash
to the finish.

McDowell quickly checked out on Mars and by the time the checkered flag
came
out, McDowell had another full straightaway advance over Mars.

Ogle picked up an extra $150 by taking the Advance Auto Parts Hard Charger
Award. Ogle started 24th and finished 15th. Anderson came back from his
cut tire to finish 12th, and was the Lucas Oil Rookie of the Race. Winston
Cup star Ken Schrader of Fenton, MO started 18th and finished 13th in the
Federated Auto Parts GRT/Dickens Grand Prix.

Miller took fast time honors among the 27 entrants with a lap around the
1/2-mile dirt oval in 18.490 seconds for an average speed of 97.350 miles
per hour.

McDowell won the first heat to earn the pole position for the main event.
Moran picked up the $50 Scott Performance Wire Bonus Award with a second
heat race win, and Mars took the $100 JE Pistons Bonus Award after winning
the third heat race. Kraus won the 12-lap Polaris ATVs Consolation Race.

The next event for the UDTRA Pro DirtCar Series will be on May 27 on the
1/5-mile Macon Speedway in Macon, IL for a 100-lap $10,000-to-win main
event.
