STEVE FRANCIS TO DEFEND HIS “BACKYARD” THIS WEEKEND IN RENDAGE AND MACS COMPETITON
“Kentucky Colonel stays hot in UDTRA action with back-to-back top-5 finishes”
(May 10, 2002 – Ashland, KY) Steve Francis returns to his native state of Kentucky this weekend as Francis will compete in the Renegade Dirt Cars Series and MACS double hitter at Florence Speedway in Union, KY. Francis’ last appearance with MACS dates back in October 2001, which yielded Steve his first career MACS victory. Steve has produced some exciting and impressive statistics at Florence Speedway with repeat wins in the UDTRA Ironman 100 event (1999, 2000) along with a fast qualifier award in 2001.
Steve Francis produced another string of top-5 finishes in his Valvoline Mopar Performance Parts sponsored Rocket Chassis Dodge over the past two weeks in UDTRA competition. With a 4th place finish at Thunder Valley Speedway in Lawndale, NC (April 27, 2002) and followed up with a 2nd place finish at Scenic Raceway (May 3, 2002) with a win in the third heat race. Francis’ 2nd place finish was captured in front of the Speed Channel cameras and will be broadcasted on May 23, 2002. Francis’ consistent efforts along the UDTRA championship points trail finds Steve sitting in 4th place just 37 points outside of first place.
Even though Steve is the wheelman behind the Mopar Performance Parts Valvoline Rocket Chassis House Car in the 2002 season, Francis will also be strapping into his familiar #15 Rocket Chassis this season for several events. This racing effort is still based out of the Steve Francis Racing shop in Ashland, KY. More details are forthcoming at Steve’s official home on the Internet, www.stevefrancisracing.com
